WHITE WHALE WATCHING IN THE BEAUTIFUL RUSSIAN NORTH (KL-04)
OVERVIEW

We invite you to enjoy the beauty and tranquility of the Solovetsky islands and watch the white whales in their natural habitat, close to the White Sea coast in Russia. These rare species have been settling in the Russian North for many years, even the well-known name of the ‘Beluga’ whale means ‘white one’ in Russian. Today the unique and beautiful ‘sea canaries’ are listed as vulnerable by the IUCN Red List. Located in the western part of the White Sea less than 150 km from the Polar Circle, the archipelago of the Solovetsky islands is one of the natural habitats of a thriving population of white whales, in the wild. The islands' picturesque relief, shaped by the steep hills and low banks of sand and stone, form a unique setting for the diverse ecosystems with their abundance of floral and animal wild life. On the largest Solovetsky Island there is a legendary medieval monastery complex which is included on UNESCO's World Heritage List.

CUSTOMERS REVIEW
My Dad and I had a really special trip with lots of good memories. The quality of the trip guides organised by Go Russia for us was one of the highlights of our time. Their English was faultless and they looked after us very well, making us feel safe and well informed. St Petersburg is lovely but for me the highlight was the Soloveski Islands, wow!! I would use Go Russia again for another trip to Russia!
